U253 FROM A DRUMMER'S PERSPECTIVE

MY NAME IS dOUG DAVIS AND I AM PROUD TO PLAY DRUMS FOR U253. WHEN I WAS LOOKING FOR A BAND TO JOIN , I WAS LIKE YOU. I LIKED U2, KNEW SOME OF THE HITS, HEARD ABOUT SOME OF THE CAUSES, AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE COOL TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN THE USUAL CLASSIC ROCK BAND. I HAD MULTIPLE OFFERS AND COULD HAVE PLAYED WITH SEVERAL BANDS, BUT AFTER RESEARCHING U253 AND WATCHING THEIR VIDEOS, i BEGAN TO UNDERSTAND THE TERM "TRIBUTE BAND"  AND WHAT THESE GUYS WERE ALL ABOUT. THEY NOT ONLY PLAY THE MUSIC, THEY SOUND LIKE U2, LOOK LIKE U2, AND TRY TO EVOKE THE SPIRIT OF U2. THAT MEANS USING THE CORRECT INSTRUMENTS, WEARING THE CLOTHES, PLAYING THE B-SIDES AS WELL AS THE HITS, AND PARTNERING WITH LOCAL CHARITIES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY.

THAT BEING SAID, SINCE I'VE JOINED THE BAND WE HAVE PLAYED BITE OF SEATTLE, TASTE OF TACOMA, 7 CEDARS CASINO, EMERALD DOWNS RACETRACK, PUYALLUP FAIR, JAZZBONES, THE SWISS, MANETTE SALOON, STONEGATE, THE SPAR, J&M CAFE, FREEDOM FAIR, ROCK HARD PDX, Among others. u253 utilizes the latest in DIGITAL SOUND EQUIPMENT, LED LIGHTING, AND EVEN USES SOME OF THE SAME TRACKS AS THE ORIGINAL U2 TO ENSURE FAITHFUL REPRODUCTION OF THE MUSIC.

THE BOYS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

TIM RADES-(bono) VOCALS , PERCUSSION, GUITAR. NOT ONLY A DYNAMIC, ENTERTAINING FRONTMAN WHO TAKES COMMAND OF THE STAGE and the room, TIM'S A U2 FANATIC SO INTO IT THAT HE DESIGNS OUR STAGE CLOTHES, MAKES OUR STAGE BANNERS, DESIGNS THE DRUM HEAD, YOU NAME IT. he is also a trained graphic artist who played in an original band "the Critics" in the Milwaukee area of wisconsin, moved to the pacific nw, and answered an ad for a u2 tribute band. right up his alley. now he designs our posters, puts together promo videos, designs stage sets. an extremely talented singer, artist, and a lot of fun to work with.

eirik oneil-(the edge) guitar, keyboards, vocals. a founding member of the group, eirik  started on guitar  admiring the style and sound of the edge from u2. Later he knew some success in the bay area as a member of an original band called " scarlet theory." the band broke up, he moved home, got married, had kids, got out of music. but that u2 seed was planted and together with greg , a friend from church, they came up with a plan for a tribute of sorts.  a tireless worker, eirik has spent countless hours perfecting the instantly recognizable guitar sounds of the edge, books the band, handles the admin side, but he also represents the spirit of u2 by organizing food drives, working with local charities (jackets for julia), and trying to put together a concert with the  local youth orchestra.

greg jacoby-(adam Clayton) bass. another original member originally from the east coast, greg played in rock bands throughout high school and also studied violin and was influenced by such diverse artists as the beatles, stones and frank zappa. u2 was not his favorite band, although he knew and respected their music. once he met eirik and they began working on this thing, it quickly became apparent that this was about way more than just the music. that feeling of working on a project, each person has his role, everyone striving for a common goal, watching it evolve from a cover band into an accomplished tribute act. being a working attorney, greg handles the legal end of the band, as well as the musical end, while still remaining active in Worship music. he patterns his bass rig after adam clayton, uses the same instruments, and provides that dry sense of humor that is essential when working on your fourth drummer.

doug davis-(larry mullen jr.) drums, percussion, vocals. together with greg, we strive to provide that rock solid foundation that u2 is built around. this doesn't just "happen", it takes rehearsal, practice, and a commitment to be the best musicians we can be, and provide the basis for tim (bono) and eirik (the edge) to do their thing. in addition to drumming, I also run the on-stage backing tracks in the same manner as u2, and you can bet that's us playing the instruments and singing the parts, paying tribute to u2, the biggest band in the world!
